Eastside Community Garden in Lansing

Roger, Xun, and I went on the garden tour on Monday evening!   Very interesting!  Here are some photos.

This is Alex Bryant the GLFB Community Garden Director--a very nice fellow!

Gardeners can borrow these tools at the Foster Park Resource Center.  Twenty people rent plots there for their own family garden.

People who rent plot can get free seeds, plants and gardening assistance.

These pictures show other resources available to gardeners.

These photos show the Urbandale Community garden  which is a farm for profit in the Red Cedar flood plain area.  FEMA is buying up properties as they come up as this is a primary flood area and houses should not have been built there.  This garden has 4 salaried gardeners who farm the land and they sell their produce to the nearby neighborhood, at the Wednesday Allen Street Farmers Market and to ELFCO and some local restaurants such as Fork in the Road.  The farm is almost self supporting.  We learned a lot from this tour.
